TAGS member Alex Jones invites you to Costa Rica: "I am a member of TAGS and I am also the owner of Triangle Travel Service, an American Express Travel Services agency and I am planning to escort an *all gay and lesbian* trip to Costa Rica in October of 2010. This adventurous tour will be focused on class III/IV rafting in addition to other activities such as zip lines, waterfall rappelling, soaking in volcanic hot springs, rainforest trekking, wildlife viewing, and beaches but the activities can be customized to suit the needs of less adventurous travelers. The tour cost is $1,861.00 per person, land only/double occupancy and includes a private driver and bilingual native tour guide, accommodations in four star accommodations, choice of activities, breakfast daily plus several other meals, and taxes. This trip is being arranged through my wholesaler, Way to Go Tours, which is a local Raleigh, NC based tour operator specializing in Costa Rica with which I have a close personal relationship." As tourists, we're a migratory species hunting some destination in our heads as much as any place on a map. But we arrive as a flock which doesn't expect to be liked unless we spend money. That's so sad for such otherwise likeable people. Time for a tourist makeover; On your next trip to Costa Rica or elsewhere, ride the rapids, look at sites, help others, or be lazy, but be liked as someone other than a consumer. Smash your camera, pitch your cell phone overboard, and let the people you meet just be folks. Sociable TAGSters can bring new honor and humanity to the title of "tourist." It'll be good for you, good for the planet, and probably good for tourism. Closer to home, we packed Michael's place at our January potluck, yet we didn't knock over or break any of his beautiful objects. He arranges them with such an astute and authoritative sense of place that we could effortlessly navigate around them with awe and admiration. The cuisine was scrumptious. My favorite local dish was grits soufflé. Thanks again for your hospitality, Michael!
